| The first single to be taken from Kele’s imminent debut album The Boxer (released June 21st) is the dirty club joint Tenderoni (released June 14th). A track peppered with dirty bass squawls and a ridiculously propulsive beat, it’s a slice of intensely euphoric electro joy.
A superb remix package comes courtesy of Larry Tee, Dam Mantle, Kris Menace, Jokers Of The Scene and a dub version by XXXChange.
Kele is currently taking time out from his commitments to Bloc Party to explore new territory as a solo artist. Written and recorded in NYC with sound lord XXXChange, the album takes in booty bouncing electro beats with pop, r&b and disco. The result is thrilling, an album marked by both its ambition and its sense of the new. It is a fearless work.
“In culture right now any period of music is ripe for the picking. It’s all up for grabs,” says Kele “The effect that Youtube has on the consciousness of a new generation is incredible. In 20 years time, for kids that can’t remember a time before Youtube and that speed of interfacing with every bit of cultural and musical heritage as a natural extension of themselves, well, can you imagine what art they are going to be making? The possibilities for future pop stardom are incredible.”
For Kele Okereke, one suspects they start right now. |
